The Northeastern US and your best Biking Paths

As a native of the Northeast, I love how many scenic areas there are to visit. I have never tired of scenery because there is so much variety. One of the ways to get a full appreciation of what the Northeast has to offer is from a bike. Although famous for its fall foliage, a ride in this region is a treat regardless of the season. Here is a list of some of the most beautiful trails in the Northeastern United States.

Near the town of Victor, New York is the Dryer Road Bike Trail. This is a favorite for families and groups because the trails appeal to many skill levels. With new trails being added there is sure to be something appealing to all. With cool cut backs, s-turns, challenging climbs and descending trails, the versatility is enough to keep experienced cyclists satisfied.

The Cedar Mountain Loop near Parsonsfield, Maine is a 12-mile loop that is occasionally steep, but suitable for amateur riders as well. The view at the top is worth the extra effort though. Be prepared for a number of water bars at the bottom. Some are 4-6 feet high so get ready for some air time! There’s a little bit of everything here to keep you on your toes.

The trails in the Bear Brook State Forest near Allentown, New Hampshire are varied enough to suit any level of skill. Because there are over 100 miles of track, make sure you get a map of the area before starting out. There is also a small fee ($2.50) required to ride here as well. This park is well loved by local bikers, but because of the extensive network of trails, you could easily ride for hours without seeing anyone else. If your unfamiliar with the area, it might be best to ride with a buddy the first few times because of the remoteness.

The 75 miles of track of the Cross Vermont Trail in Burlington, Vermont has been well received by bikers. The terrain is made of mostly gravel and is not exclusive to cyclists, so be mindful of others during your ride. Often times these scenic trails are shared with hikers, horseback riders and cross-country skiers. The trails are also furnished with multiple entry and exit paths, so you can customize your trip.

Lynn Woods in Lynn, Massachusetts is probably the best place to freeride in the entire state. Its the perfect place for serious mountain bikers to hone their skills as there are all types of terrain here–steep hills, slick rock, thick clay, fire/gravel road. Anything that could be remotely dangerous offers a bailout point if you want to ensure your safety. Just be sure to bring lots of water because your going to need it!

Although there are a number of paved trails in the Northeast, a great many of them are woods trails designed for the dedicated mountain biker. If mountain biking is your passion, then this is the place to visit! Thousands of tourists visit the New England states each year in the fall to view the stunning autumn foliage. Imagine getting a firsthand look from a bike trail back in the woods! Be sure to bring a camera and get ready for an unforgettable ride!
