Remember the heady days of youth, mounting that first bike – a BMX, forging a way down the concrete highway to an off-road destination that included grass, dirt and hopefully, a ramp or two. Today the technology of bicycle engineering rivals that of automotive and aerospace with consumer ticket prices to reflect. Space-age materials, ultra-light metal fiber composites and petroleum-based synthetics are the highlights of modern day marvels. They belong on a pedestal, but are brought to light under competitive or showcase opportunities.

Enter the world of single-speed bicycles. These economical and highly efficient transports offer the best of today’s improvements with the simplicity of yesterday’s mechanics. With such simple mechanisms, they are a breeze to operate and maintain. With prices in the three to four hundred dollar range, they offer a simple yet compelling option for commuting where style is often as important as speed. These fashionable wheels are a favorite of both hipsters and bicycle messengers and are considered a growing trend in metropolitan North American cities.

The single-speed is a bicycle without derailleur or hub bracket, it has a single gear ratio and the drive train may be fitted with a chain or belt. While belts are uncommon, they do offer some practical advantages over chains, such as quieter operation, decreased wear and lubrication-free cleanliness.

The main difference between single-speed and fixed-gear is the freewheel system which allows the rider to coast. The fixed-gear is a subset of the single-speed and is a common system for track or velodrome riding. The fixed-gear allows the rider improved feedback from the transmission. Speed is a matter of RPMs while braking and deceleration are handled by the rider’s legs and weight. Braking occurs when the rider resists the revolutions of the pedal crank. It is a simple mechanism where weighting forward on the pedals moves the bike forwards, and resisting results in braking, deceleration or even backwards driving. Because of this drive-train, certain stunts such as track stands are made possible. While most fixed-gears are single-speeds, this is not always the case. Fixed gears are also used in cycle ball, bike polo and artistic cycling.

The single-speed does offer some advantages over the fixed-gear, such as front-wheel braking and the ability to freewheel coast. On the fixed-gear, the pedals will continue to spin as long as the wheels are moving. This can be somewhat hazardous while making sharp turns. Additionally, weight is shifted to the front wheel of the bicycle during braking. Seventy percent of the braking power may come from the front wheel when braking hard. Having two-wheel braking power is a valid consideration for anyone who employs rapid sprinting techniques on their ride. Of the two choices, the single-speed is a more sensible commuter choice.

Having said that, to argue in the fixed-gear’s defense only requires one word: fun. The BMX mentioned in the opening line of this article was a fixed-gear. It had one gear, no brakes and provided a fundamental riding experience upon which all others would be based. It was a rock solid, failure-proof machine that acquitted itself well on dirt, grass or pavement. The pressures of BMXing require split-second acceleration, braking and a very firm grip. Front-mounted brake grips would not allow the kind of aerial hijinx and stunt-making that is the basis of its riding experience. It is a sport machine first and a transport second. The irreplaceable skills of balance, coordination and timing can be learned on this “primitive” proto-cycle. This is what makes it so popular for sport and track. Consider this well when making your choice.

Older bicycles may be fitted with the single-speed or fixed-gear drive trains, but due to the low cost of these newer models, it may be more efficient to simply own two bicycles – each with its own best-suited purpose. The single gear ratio on both of these models limits the top speed to a matter of RPMs. They are generally not for performance or long-distance, however they do offer simplicity and style that is attractive for the common commuter. If convenience and low maintenance are weigh heavily in your consideration for choosing a bicycle, the single-speed and/or fixed gear may be just the solution for you.

Consider this final thought: the man on the bicycle traveling at 10-15km/h, using only the power required to walk, is the most efficient form of transport available. In terms of energy/distance it beats every animal or machine on the planet including horses, birds and even jet-powered airplanes. The bicycle will be man’s transport of choice, long after the fossil fuels are gone.

Looking for some great cycling bikes review? Here we've gathered just the top ten stationary bikes. Hopefully you'll find one on this list that's perfect for you.

Looking for some great cycling bikes review? Here we’ve gathered just the top ten stationary bikes. Hopefully you’ll find one on this list that’s perfect for you.

So without further adieu, here’s what to keep in mind when shopping for cycling bikes.

Kaiser M3

Give it a quick test ride in the store. You don’t want to get it home and find out that you hate it. So get a few quick pedals in at the store, and if you like it, put it on your “maybe” list.

Comfort, Comfort, Comfort

You can get a great used bike for half the cost of a new one. There’s also the fact to consider that a bike that’s been used and is still in salable condition is sure to last you for awhile.

Magnetic Fusion

In a broad sense, of course. Look for the bike you want, or you’re likely to lose interest and stop cycling. Look for one you’ll love so you can stay interested in using it.

Shop Cheap

The Stamina CPS is just a good, basic stationary bike for those of us who don’t have all the time in the world ot worry about staying in shape.

Browse Online, Buy in Person

Join some relevant forums and ask for recommendations based on your needs. This will help you by letting the real geeks do the research for you.

Read Up

If it doesn’t fit in your living room, what good is it? Get the measurements and make sure you have space for it wherever you plan on putting it. If you have a three story mansion, get whatever you please. For the rest of us, keep your floorspace in mind. You’ve only got so many square feet to go around.

Stamina Magnetic

You’ll know whether it feels good to ride when you test it out. If the seat is too hard, if it’s just no fun to ride, don’t buy it, simple as that. Make sure it doesn’t make your butt sore, is what we’re saying here. Make sure it rides well and the seat is comfortable to sit on.

Don’t Think You Need The Fanciest Model

The Phoenix Recumbent is pretty cool. If you want a heavy duty workout, look no further. The Recumbent is the sort of bike that’s really built specifically for those cyclers who want to push themselves to the limit each time out and get the workout of a lifetime on a daily basis.

Mini Cycle

Shipping costs on cycling bikes are out of this world. Even when they send it to you in a kit, you’re shipping about a hundred pounds of steel and plastic. Browse online to see what’s good, but buy in person. This way you can figure out what product is the best and the best price, but you don’t have to pay phenomenal shipping fees.

Borrow Your Friend’s Truck

If you can get model X for two grand, but you can get model Y, which is nearly identical, for five hundred, get model Y. You don’t need the newest, fanciest bike available, you just need one that suits your purposes. Remember, it’s not a status symbol, it’s a way to get in shape, and what it really comes down to isn’t so much the bike itself but how much you’re willing to put into daily cycling.

To get the best cycling bike you need to read and research about the choices you have. Many cycling bikes are made each year, but not all are the same. Jump online and read for the best option.

The cycling bike, also known as a stationary or exercise bike, can be found in all gyms and in many homes today. For those who don’t have the time for a real 45 minute ride around town, they can easily simulate the experience. A cycling bikes review is the first thing to read if you’re considering purchasing one of these fitness devices for yourself.

Although you wouldn’t necessarily think so, there are quite a variety of cycling bikes out there. The original kind with the upright seat and classic bicycle frame are still popular. There are newer kinds such as the stowaway and compact models, which make it easy to set up anywhere. There are also the recumbent and fan styles which are geared toward the comfort of the rider. A digital display is common among most machines today.

The Schwinn Active 10 Series Upright Exercise Bike is a good example of a high selling standard model. Most of the frame and mechanisms should be familiar to any cyclist, but there are some nice high tech features as well. The digital display allows the ride to choose from 11 different workout settings while the grip sensors on the handlebars monitors their body levels.

An exercise bike that uses comfort as its strongest selling point is the Schwinn Active 20 Series Recumbent Exercise Bike. It’s based off of real bikes on which the seated is lower down and with a back rest. These types of bicycles make it easier to pedal for long periods of time without getting winded. It also comes with a computer display for adjusting your workout.

The Schwinn Airdyne Upright Exercise Bike is also focused on the comfort of the rider. A top-seller for years, this model comes equipped with a peddle powered fan where the wheel would normally be. This can be quite refreshing during long workouts. The fact that it is powered by your feet also adds that extra incentive to keep going. It comes with a digital screen by the handle bars as well.

The Confidence Foldable Stow Away Exercise Bike is great for anyone who needs to conserve space in their home. If you live in an apartment, you can simply open and fold the bike whenever you feel the need for some exercise. It’s quite light, so it can be transferred from one room to another. When it’s in the closed position, it can easily fit into most closets.

If you are in the market for a cycling bike, a cycling bikes review will help you to know the features you are searching for in choosing your bike. The more comfortable your bike is, the more likely it is that you will use it.

In order to purchase a cycling or stationary bike, it is important that you purchase a bike that is sturdy. When you look at the bike, the legs should extend far enough that they offer good support that will keep the bike upright even if you were to lose your balance temporarily.

You will find that a recumbent bike is easier to get onto and is easier on your joints than other stationary bikes. The seat is larger and shaped more like a chair for greater comfort. The biggest disadvantage is that all exercise must be done while in a seated position.

To use the upright bike you will need more mobility and balance. You will have to lift your leg over the center support and balance on a much smaller seat. The seat is larger than a standard bike seat but is still smaller than the recumbent seat. It will be less comfortable and will not give any back support or armrests. If the resistance gets tough as the computer simulates a hill climb, you can stand up to pedal.

Although both types of bikes are sometimes equipped with handles that move back and forth supposedly to give an upper body workout, they have not been proven to give any additional benefits to your workout.

Stationary bikes are excellent at burning calories. The problem is that they only offer a workout for the lower body. To get a more balanced workout, consider alternating biking with weight lifting so that you can work all the muscles of your body.

Many of the less expensive bikes only must have the resistance changed manually. While you can change that resistance to fit your own workout style, it is often difficult to find the correct adjustment. The more expensive bikes have a computer that controls the resistance. Resistance can be changed with the push of a button or can even be set to run through a program that varies the resistance to simulate riding on a road that has some inclines and down slopes.

Many of the bikes also have a heart rate monitor. The monitor can be useful in making sure that you are working in your target aerobic range. It can also warn you if your workout has become too extreme and you need to slow down for a few minutes to allow the heart rate to return to the correct range. When you finish your workout, the monitor is a good gage to let you know when you have completed your cool down cycle.

A cycling bikes review is helpful as you select a bike that has the features you need to be most successful at you workout. It is important that in addition to the reviews you take time to view those bikes that are in your top choices list.

Getting the best bike will require that you look at many cycling bike reviews before making a decision! Find the reviews and cycling bikes you want to compare fast and easy today!

The type of exercise bike you purchase should depend on your purpose of using it in your exercise regimen. This cycling bikes review will guide you through the many choices available today. When you are done reading this you will understand the advantages and disadvantages of upright, recumbent, spinning and mini exercise bikes.

Answering the following questions will help you to narrow down your choices. Are you going to use your bike frequently or will you use only once in awhile? How important is the appearance, style and color of the bike? How much space do you have and what type of floor surface is the bike going to be on? How much are you willing to spend on your bike? For advance users, what type of resistance do your require when working out?

An upright bike looks like the traditional road bike that you would ride outside. The seat is placed directly over the pedals. The height of the seat is adjustable and on some you can adjust the horizontal seat position. An advantage of an upright bike is that you can stand up when you pedal harder. Spinning bikes have a weighted flywheel which create resistance. This resistance mimics the experience of riding a road bike up a hill. On higher end models you can finely tune the level of resistance and monitor your progress.

Using an upright bikes can be uncomfortable when you ride for longer periods. The seats on the models that sell for under $400 are often not very good. If you are thinking of purchasing an upright you might want to take a close look at the seat. Upright bikes are not as big as other styles. This might be a consideration if you have limited space. Most upright bikes are cost less money than comparable recumbent bikes.

A recumbent bike puts the rider in a reclining position which is more comfortable than riding an upright bike. When riding a recumbent bike you can not stand up off the seat like you can with an upright bike. Recumbent bikes are bigger than upright models so you need a bigger space to use them in.

A small, sometimes portable, version of an upright bike is called a mini bike. Some mini bikes are motorized and can be used to strengthen muscles. A motorized mini bike can be put on a table to exercise your upper body.

Because they are more comfortable to ride, a recumbent bike is often a good choice for most people. But for those who are looking for a more intense workout, an upright is the way to go because of the ability to use resistance. The strength building features of a motorized mini are a good match for those who would like to use their bike for an upper body workout.

There are some extra features that may interest you. A water bottle holder is always nice for when you get thirsty. Some models have heart rate monitors and other allows you to program a selected heart rate and the resistance level will vary to maintain your selected rate. Some recumbent bikes have extra lumbar support. You may want to consider placing the bike on a rubber mat to protect your floor and make cleaning up easier. Learn how to maintain your bike and purchase the special lubricants and cleaners you will need to keep your bike in good shape. Look on the internet for more information and other cycling bikes review ideas.

When it comes to tourism, then you should know about the cycling bikes. There are thousands of different areas in the world that have these cycling bike equipments that can be helpful you get around town easier.

The use of bicycle child seats is becoming quite popular in the recent age because in these times we truly understand the need of safety in our lives which is really important and necessary. This has been a unique creation from parents who were concerned with their children’s safety on bicycles. Several brands of bicycle child seats are available according to the requirements and needs of each and every person.

Safety of the seats is what prompts parents’ to buy them for their own kids and the comfort of the kids is also significant enough. Front-mounted seats are quite popular especially since the adults can look after the kid properly and there is enough protection and safety with such seats and at the same time the child does not block the driver’s vision.

These kinds of seats mostly come as the removable ones wherein we can attach them to the bicycle whenever we want and can easily remove it as well. It is also easy to make a child sit in these seats and also to remove them from the seat easily. The seating arrangement is so adjusted that the adult who drives the cycle does get a lot of leg space.

The child seat usually occupies about three-fourths of the handlebar stem on the bicycle. The front seat option has become widely famous especially because of the problems present with the rear-mounted seats. The initial kind of child seats were the rear-end models but they possessed quite a number of disadvantages, hence, people were not so optimistic in using this one.

In the rear-mounted seats, the adults could not watch over the kids and the kids also got only limited view and there was quite an interaction problem between the rider and the kid who was sitting behind. Also, the balance of the cycle was not proportionate enough and it was not easy at all to load and unload children on to the cycle.

The negative aspects of the rear end cycle seats has been rectified in the front mounted ones and the front ones cater to the demands of the parents and offers absolute comfort and safety to the children and also provides the perfect balance in the cycle as a result a drive in such a cycle bestows enjoyment to both children and adults.

One of the prominent qualities of a child seat is the stinger system. It is with the help of the stinger system that we can effortlessly attach and detach the seat from the main bicycle. Men and women alike can use the child seat with ease and will face zero difficulties while using the same.

An excellent bicycle child seat is built with the features of safety, comfort and quality and it is these features which makes a parent confident about letting their child be seated on a bicycle to understand the amazing experience of riding the cycle.

J. H. Snow has been active looking at outdoor accessories and security items for a number of years and additionally published on a lot of these issues. He is particularly involved in bicycle child seats which in German are labeled Kinderfahrradsitz or Fahrradkindersitz and associated products.

For many avid bicycle riders, the precise frame is of the absolute importance. The components they are made with decides a lot about how the bike will perform. Bikes have had a lengthy journey from their wooden framed relatives. These days, many bicycle owners testify that the carbon bicycle frame is the clear champion.

There are many factors to consider prior to purchasing a bicycle. What use you will get out of it, the type of terrain you usually ride on, and how long you plan on keeping the bike are all questions you should be able to answer prior to buying. With bike frames, each material is very different. Carbon fiber frames can offer top notch performance with incredible durability.

Since it is a composite material, carbon fiber is the strongest bicycle frame on the market today. Even though they are very expensive when compared to other frames they are worth it in the end. Carbon bike frames are virtually indestructible and can handle immense pedaling forces.

Absorbing shock is another important variable in good bikes. When it comes to shock absorbing, Carbon fiber is, hands down, the best material around. On even the roughest terrains, riders will notice a difference. The bike will also be able to take much more tear and wear the more it can absorb shock.

If you plan on keeping your bicycle for a while, choosing one that will stand the test of time is very important. Carbon is a completely non-corrosive material. This means that the frame will not deteriorate even when subjected to the harshest of weather. This is a very good quality for bikes that are stored outside or owned by people who live and ride by the ocean.

A bicycle’s weight, for many, is a major deciding factor prior to purchasing. Riding in areas where the terrain can mean lifting the bike would be simpler with the less heavy frame. Lighter frames also allow for much more stiffness which is a more exceptional ride and big factor for many. It also allows for a much quicker bike which is important for owners who intend on racing with it. Carbon fiber allows for some of the lightest framed bicycles on today’s market.

Since carbon is easily malleable. Bike frames made from them can be shaped, during production, into virtually any design. This means they can be tailor made to fit a specific buyers needs. Racing bikes can be shaped more aerodynamically and bikes that will be used for terrain riding can be made thicker around joint areas to withstand higher pressure.

Prior to purchasing a new bicycle think carefully and long about the kind of frame you want. Base your decision off of what type of use you intend to get out the your new bicycle. Though it is a lot more costly, if you wish to get the better purchase for the money, Carbon is the best bet. Its fortitude, shock absorbency, non-corrosiveness, lightness, and pliability make it a top notch material for bikes.

Bicycling is more and more becoming an accepted form of transportation in cities the world over. Nonetheless, with the mainstreaming of bicycling has come the call for rules of the road, setting up a clash between rival camps of bicyclists.

On one side are the bicycle-as-vehicle proponents who argue that in order for bicycling to become fully accepted bicycles have to be treated as vehicles and bicyclists need to conduct themselves as motorists are expected to, following all guidelines of the road. On the other side are those who still think in the original roots of bicycling as a carefree mode of transport that was informal and unregulated. These “bicycle originalists” believe that one merely hops on a bike and pedals – even if on the sidewalk, against traffic, and without a helmet.

The bicycle-as-vehicle crowd argues for rules, even in a park. It’s a veritable cultural war within the bicycling community, and has been for ages. This is an interesting, and even amusing, situation, when one considers how uniform motorists are compared to cyclists who, true to form, are as free-thinking as their free-ranging ways may suggest.

But a bicycle is not a “vehicle,” unless one defines “vehicle” as being synonymous with “means” – in which case our feet are vehicles, or means, too. A bicycle nearly in no way kills, whereas auto accidents give rise to multiple industries. It’s unfortunate but perhaps inevitable that the mainstreaming of bicycling should attract literalists, literal-minded souls and soulless minds which are blind towards the spirit of things and can only perceive, robot-like, according to rigid guidelines which can never fully encompass all the situations that arise in life – real life, as actually lived…and ridden.

A bicyclist is nothing more than an “extended pedestrian.” A bicyclist is nothing more than an empowered pedestrian – a pedal-powered pedestrian. While essential precautions should be taken, precautions unique for the act of bicycling, in no circumstance does bicycling ever even begin to approach all which is involved with operating a car.

A brief overview of carbon bike frame development reveals a direct descendant of US aerospace engineering activities that took place starting in the 1970s. Work on the space shuttle and the development of stealth fighter and bomber aircraft back then mainly powered this activity. Today, a carbon bike made from carbon fiber materials has a number of notable positive ride characteristics.

In the 1970s, aerospace engineers began considering ways in which they might make military aircraft lighter and more “invisible” to radar. Carbon fiber isn’t a metal, meaning that radar waves (radar stands for “Radio Detection and Ranging”) tended to not bounce off of it is readily as it does metal of all types. This was a great discovery, and meant that aircraft could be stealthier against such radar.

This gave engineers the idea to start substituting carbon fiber from metal in many different applications, most especially those involving aircraft. When it’s properly laid up or molded, carbon fiber is able to be shaped into many different forms. Aerospace engineers and others looked at this with excitement, because certain shapes slip through radar easier than others.

Carbon fiber also has a great many properties, all of which contribute to its structural rigidity and extreme durability, in many cases. This meant that its light weight and durable nature made it a perfect candidate for use as a material on the space shuttle. Lighter weight meant less use of expensive fuels for the shuttle, in other words.

These same aerospace engineers eventually migrated to entrepreneurial activities in many cases as well. This means that they struck out on their own, forming their own aerospace companies or other businesses that created goods made from carbon fiber. One of these was bike frames. Carbon proved to be durable, extremely light in weight and easily molded into such frames, with the right equipment.

Back in the 80s, however, many professional and hard-core enthusiast bicyclists were wedded to the idea of steel for their bike frames. Even Greg LeMond, who won the Tour de France three times, resisted the idea of a non-metallic frame. Eventually, however carbon fiber’s durability, strength and smooth riding characteristics won over not only him but many other cyclists as well.

Today, almost no professional road cyclist out there rides anything other than a carbon fiber bike. Lance Armstrong, eight-time winner of the Tour de France, rides a specially-made carbon fiber bike that costs in excess of $15,000 but weighs relatively little. Its handling and ride characteristics are without compare. Today, these characteristics have trickled all the way down to the average rider’s bike.

A carbon bike frame will probably never be as inexpensive as a frame made with aluminum or steel (titanium bike frames cost about the same as carbon fiber), but the cost has come down significantly over the years. Many bikes today come out of factories in mainland China and Taiwan, where high-quality bikes and bike frames are produced in great number. This results in a less-expensive frame, overall.

There is a big difference when it comes to weight with certain bike frames and carbon bike frame is the lightest material out for bikes. We have many different carbon bike frames that can help you perform better tricks like the pros.
