I acquired some new bike frames a couple of weeks ago for a new year treat. A fresh “Orange Five” plus a “Ragley Blue Pig” are dazzling within my house alongside a good amount of other frames. Just in case you don’t know “I love cycling”. Its my entire life and I seriously look forward to purchasing my next frame. However what to do with these bike frames? Well I’ve got got some tips which you may not have considered!

Obvious Alternatives – Well the most apparent choice is cycling to work. I work roughly Twenty mls from where I live and it takes approximately one hour and 25 minutes to ride into work. It is an outstanding large amount of fun and it keeps me fit and healthy! How about buying a pannier and then riding to the shops? You’ll find a pannier to match any kind of bike frames and then ride your shopping home. This protects you carrying heavy shopping loads on your handelbars!

Cycling Holiday – Maybe you have contemplated a bicycle trip around the globe? This would be a great option for your bike frame I have taken loads of excursions across the world which includes such places as America, China, Australia and Japan! Japan is among my favourite riding spots. I usually ride through the “Cherry Blossom” season because it is definitely a stunning period of the year. I love bombing about the hilly and sometimes tremendous mountain pathways and trails during a beautiful spring day! I truly strongly advise that for those who have the possibility give this ago!

Join a Cycling Club – Bicycling groups certainly are a enjoyable way to socialise, meet up with friends and enjoy biking. I ride with my own local cycle club Rutland Velo Club, and also met my partner from the club. Cycling clubs assist in improving general bicycling fitness along with assisting to get used to riding in all sorts of circumstances. It is also a pleasant chance to get all the cycling chit chat on the most recent bikes and equipment. I enjoy the regular meet up, the fun, the games as well as rush of the cycling. I would say look at local papers more resources for the best way to join your local bike club.

In the event that not one of these suggestions take you fancy, merely sit back and take pleasure in your wonderful gleaming bike frame for a little more time!

When you purchase a road bike, you should first take into consideration some bicycle-riding factors such as style, aim, and budget. If you’ve already ruled out the more common bike frames from metallic materials from the picture, then there is only the carbon bike frame to consider. Many bike manufacturers produce and market most types of bikes, but for most bike racers and leisure bikers, the carbon bike is the best one around.

The kind of bicycle frame material plays a great part in determining the quality and riding experience of the rider with regard to the road surface it’s used on – so meticulous care should be given when purchasing any kind of bike. Each type of frame material comes with its inherent set of advantages and disadvantages, particularly giving different and unique levels of riding quality and experience. Here, we’ll pay special attention to the Carbon Fiber bike in comparison to the other types mentioned above.

Carbon fiber is a very popular, non-metallic material used in manufacturing bicycle frames today because of its light weight, high-strength, and anti-corrosive qualities. Although expensive, it can be customized to any desired shape, fine-tuned to withstand extreme pedaling forces, and highly flexible for other frame sections to be designed differently to provide the utmost comfortable riding experience ever not possible with any metal frame material in existence.

A carbon fiber bike is the frame of choice for many bike enthusiast and racers. Stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, a well-built carbon fiber bike offers greater increase in performance on the road or track. Custom-built carbon bike frames can be designed with individual tubes stronger in either lateral or a vertical direction; a characteristic absent in other metal frames, for optimum stiffness and flexibility to fit a rider’s riding demands.

The only disadvantages of a carbon bike are fatigue and damage issues associated with long-time and prolonged use and from crashes and mishandling. The resin that holds the tubes together makes for a very stiff adhesive that isn’t really able to handle severe over flexing or bending of the tubes. This characteristic makes it prone to structural failure resulting in a complete breakdown of the bicycle frame, thus giving it a much lower fatigue life, and thus a shorter lifespan.

Getting a carbon bike for whatever riding goals are on your agenda is relatively easy to achieve with all the brands being sold in the market nowadays, online or from your local bicycle shop. Just remember to choose the model that fits your needs and size, and you’ll surely be biking in pleasure for a long time.

Biking can be a serious sport or a relaxing hobby, either way you need a bike that fits your needs. There are a variety of bikes from carbon road bikes to old school mountain bikes, you can even have the flexibility of choosing a bike frame based solely around one type of biking. The hardest part is knowing what kind of bike you need.

Bicycle Framing Systems, Bicycle Frame Sizes

There are various means of measuring bicycle frames which have been in use since long, but the latest and widely trusted means of measurement is the top tube length measurement technique in which you get a proper and clear idea about the correct type of bicycle frame meant for your height and body weight.

Measuring a bicycle frame is not a very difficult task, given the wide variety of options available for doing the task. However, one significant thing about this whole process is the fact that improper measurement of bicycle frames can be extremely dangerous for your health since you may develop various orthopedic disorders if you drive a bicycle which is way above your height and physical strength. Another extremely important thing to be kept in mind is that you should never compare yourself with professional cyclists and hence do not try to imitate them or their speed while driving on a busy road.

Bicycle frame sizing Having said all of that, let us know, how exactly are bicycle frames measured for a regular or a leisurely cyclist? In earlier times, bicycle frame sizes were measured depending on the seat tube length. The result was generally determined in centimeters for road bikes and in inches for mountain cycles. But now since the times have changes, so have the ways of measurement as well and these days bicycle frames are measured by top tube length. So, the longer the top tube length, longer is the overall height of the cycle. So, always have a proportional top tube length so that the overall length and weight of the cycle is well manageable by you while you are riding. In case, you wish to alter the size of the cycle then you need to reduce the length of the top tube for getting your desired height and look.

Bicycle framing systems With changing times, the technologies have also undergone a sea change and hence bicycle framing systems have become extremely popular in the market. These systems measure the body weight and height of the cyclist and determine the exact size of the bicycle frame required by him. These systems are popular because they are reliable, cost-effective and are good means of avoiding any chances of injury while riding. Riding a bicycle which is of proper length is extremely necessary if you wish to remain safe and avoid chances of spraining your back or injuring your knee muscles since the handlebar might hurt your knees, if the cycle is too low. If it is too high then you might face a problem in balancing it and it might be difficult during times of emergency to get down from the cycle quickly and easily.

So, always check the proper bicycle frame required for you by using any of the well-renowned bicycle framing systems and be comfortable in whichever cycle you opt for.

Mountain biking equipment includes accessories, components, frames, apparels and the bikes themselves. The product is varied so you must be clear what you are trying to get. Does mountain biking mean a leisurely pastime for you or are you the more adventurous type? If this is your first step towards mountain biking, then you should begin by choosing a perfectly suspended, sturdy bike to enjoy your bike ride.

Mountain bike parts are looser than cycling parts. It can be said that comparing the two can be like comparing oranges and apples. You dress up in t-shirts and shorts and chuck warmers or leg tights. But care must be taken to wear helmets. Hazards like rocks and trees can ambush the riders so protection is a must.

A few accessories make your adventure safer. If you want to hit the trails at night then equip yourself with mountain bike lights. Specifically, led bicycle lights; the energy of the lights battery and deliver the rider added hours of brightest light. This is manna for mountain bike fanatics who must get out even before dawn.

Your neighborhood dealer or online bicycle shops is where you will find splendid mountain bike gear. They sell elbow, leg, arm, shin, knee guards and also full body armor. A plethora of items like helmet, gloves and proper clothing are also found at amazing rates. These shops cater to the thrill seekers on the mountains as well as the recreational bikers.

Protective mountain bike equipment is ideal for the hazards of downhill and uphill racing. Plenty of body armor parts are created and produced for the rough sport so in case of a accident you will have adequate safety. These gears will not come in the way of your ride and will block serious accidents as well.

You cannot emphasize more the relevance of helmets. They can be life saviors for this speedy and adventurous sport. Both big and small races need them. Gloves, although optional, will prevent blisters and burns on your hands, and give a firmer grip for sweaty palms.

Comfortable apparel in the form of shorts, t-shirts and sneakers are usually the standard because most of these races take place in the summer season. If the season is winter, spring or fall then pants, vests and sweat shirts can come in. and rest assured, with the variety of clothing gear in the offing there will be no problem in making a style statement.

If you know what you’re doing, there’s no reason you can’t buy a good mountain bike online. However, it’s important not to buy the first thing you see that looks appealing. Appearances from a picture can be deceiving, and what you really need to know is whether the bike is a good fit for you. Learning about bikes before you start shopping, and knowing just what you want are the keys to successfully buying a mountain bike online.

A professional fitting is invaluable to being able to decide what the right bike is. It might cost a bit, but in the end, you’ll know what kind of frame size and geometry you need. Any reputable bike store will be willing to offer you a fitting, whether or not you end up purchasing your mountain bike there.

When you’ve finished with determining the sort of frame and size you need, you’ll want to begin looking at mountain bike brands and the variety of features offered. Browse a lot, and learn as much about every kind of bike as you can. You’ll want to settle on the type of material you want in the fame, (aluminum, steel, carbon fiber or titanium being the most common, although steel and aluminum are less costly).

With mountain bikes, suspension is something you should ask about – is there no suspension, front suspension or a combination of front and rear? A gentler ride comes with more suspension. Next turn your consideration to brands that appeal to you.

Think about brands that appeal to you. While the ultimate decision may not be based on brand name, it’s a good idea to begin evaluation with proved names such as Specialized, Cannondale and Trek. One thing you can be sure of is that a proven brand like Cannondale Mountain Bikes will provide you years of good service.

Online you’ll find a number of bike retailers, as well as a wide variety of mountain bikes being offered both by retailers and individuals on eBay. Buying bikes on eBay requires a bit of caution. If you choose to go with eBay, be very careful to make certain that the bike you’re buying is the one you want.

Return policies can be tricky, and individual sellers can misrepresent their bikes, intentionally or not. Pay close attention to the condition of the bike, the feedback about the seller, and the shipping and handling costs and you can really save money shopping for a mountain bike on eBay.

On the other hand, buying from an online bike retailer may prove to be a little safer. It’s always important to check up on the online store and make sure that they’re reliable, too. Find out about return policies and warranties, if available. So long as you take the time to investigate adequately, shopping for the right mountain bike online does not have to be onerous.

When you buy a bike, price is often indicative of quality. In short, you get what you pay for. That means lots of people are interested in buying the best bike they can afford, so they’ll have a nice ride, and a durable machine. However, deciding which top of the line road bike is a good buy and which isn’t worth the money can be tricky. Here’s some basic information to help you get the right bike.

Pick the Right Frame

Frame material can make a big difference in the way your bike performs. Some are lighter, stronger, and cheaper than others. In general, steel is strong but heavy. Aluminum is light, but often weaker. Titanium is strong and light, but expensive, as is carbon fiber. However, a higher end frame made of any of these materials will solve some of the problems they have better than less expensive models. You’re not only paying for the material the frame is made from. You’re also paying for the engineering to make it perform well. Don’t be tempted to get a cheaper frame made from a prestigious material like carbon fiber. Sacrifices have probably been made to make that frame less expensive.

Another part of getting a good frame is making sure that it fits you correctly. Most people, who haven’t been correctly fitted to a bike, ride one that’s too short for them. Ideally, you should be able to extend your leg almost fully on the downward stroke, without the frame being so high that you can’t straddle it at stops. Talk to a reputable bike seller to find a frame that’s the best fit for you. This is actually more important than the material the frame is made of. If you’re not able to ride efficiently, the extra edge you get from a quality frame material won’t be much help.

The components you put on the frame also matter. While ordinary ones will do the job, higher quality components allow for more precision. Again, it’s important to fit your purchase to the way you ride. Getting the maximum number of speeds available won’t give you a big increase in quality of ride if you mostly cycle in flat areas. Gearing is more important when you need to change the difficulty of pedaling to match the terrain. People who bike more often, and are in better shape, will usually need fewer gears. Those who are trying to get in shape will prefer a larger number of adjustments, so they don’t have to strain while riding. Remember that it’s better to enjoy cycling and ride often than it is to get a heavy workout every time you get on the bike.

Bike Style

Bike style is also important. If you’re mostly going to be on pavement, a light road bike is probably your best bet. However, for areas with uneven paving, or off-road riding, mountain bikes, or hybrids between the two are more effective. They’re heavier, but they offer better stability than many lighter bikes intended for more level surfaces. Once again, it’s your riding style and habits that determines the best bike for you. While buying top of the line is a great idea, getting a bike that doesn’t fit always spells trouble.

One of the things that people looking for a mountain bike ask about most often is how to buy the best one. Unfortunately, there’s no really simple answer to that. Most bicycle companies don’t actually offer many differences between one bike and another, as long as you stay in the same price range, so it’s not a matter of brand. Instead, you need to choose the bike that’s right for you and the way you ride, as well as fitting into your budget.

Better Mountain Bikes are More Expensive

Generally, the better the bike, the more expensive it is. However, that doesn’t mean you should run out and get the most expensive bike on the market. If you aren’t a regular rider, or aren’t in terrain The cost of your mountain bike will depend on two basic factors. One is the weight of your frame. The other is its durability. Lighter bikes tend to cost more, because greater engineering and costlier materials are involved in creating a frame that will hold up to use without falling apart. Remember that a cheap light bike has had to make some sacrifices somewhere to have the low price tag that it does, and usually those sacrifices are the are of durability. Don’t be tempted by one of these mountain bikes – they’re safety hazards for their riders.

About Mountain Bike Frames and Components

The average mountain bike has fairly standardized frame proportions, attempting to offer a combination of good handling and stability. Many street bikes are willing to relax their stability requirements in favor of speedier handling. However, on rough terrain, that’s not the best idea. In general, bikes with steep head tubes and steep seat angles handle more quickly. Those with a lower degree angle in these areas, combined with a longer wheel base, have more stability.

Frame materials are important too. There are a few basic choices – high tensile steel, chromoly steel, aluminum, carbon fiber, and titanium. Each has its own benefits and drawbacks, depending on how you ride and how much you have to spend. For instance, high-tensile steel is often found in less expensive mountain bikes. It’s less stiff than chromoly steel, and generally heavier. In general, this material is one of the cheapest for mountain bike frames, but its weight means the rider does more work. Both types of steel have high durability.

Aluminum is much lighter than steel, and the stiffest material. Stiffness is good, in terms of the kind of ride this frame material gives, but it also means that there’s less resistance to cracking. Aluminum’s durability is generally, low, a trade off for its weight. Titanium and carbon fiber are quite durable and very light. However, they’re also the most expensive of the frame materials.

Other components also play a big part in the way your bike performs. In general, you’ll want to look for more speeds if you ride in hill areas, and can get by with lower priced components and fewer speeds in flat areas or if you’re in very good physical shape. While low end components work reasonably well, you’ll be surprised at the precision and the easier ride you can get with some of the more expensive ones. Once again, if you’re a casual rider with a budget, there’s no need to go overboard. Choosing mid range components that are easy to afford and fit your riding needs is better than buying the newest and best.

Much of the time, you get what you pay for when it comes to mountain bikes. While buying the best bike you can afford is a good idea, figuring out which top of the line mountain bike really is a good buy can be harder. In general, it’s best to look at the quality of the components, and the way the bike fits you and the way you ride to decide on the right model.

At base, a mountain bike is a bicycle with a sturdy frame, wider tires with large treads, horizontal handlebars, and gearing. They offer better traction and stability off road than a street bike’s narrow tires and lightweight frame can. While these bikes are called mountain bikes, that’s not all they’re for. They can also be ridden on trails with gravel or no surfacing, and cross country. They’re even good for city streets that have uneven or broken paving. Just watch out for roots and large rocks. Choose a mountain bike for any application where you’ll need strength and stability. If you do most of your cycling on flat areas with smooth pavement, these bikes are probably heavier than you’re looking for.

Mountain Bike Construction and Materials

Top of the line mountain bikes will offer quality construction, as well as using good materials. While many manufacturers will try to sell you components and frames bases solely on the materials that make them up, don’t be fooled. It’s possible to make a bad bike frame from titanium, just as it’s possible to make a good one from steel or aluminum. While prestigious materials certainly command a higher price tag, quality of manufacture is more important, whether you’re buying a frame, some gears, or new wheels. Look for bikes with good suspension and higher quality disc brakes, instead of rim brakes like the ones on road bikes.

Mountain Bike Frames and Suspension

Lighter frames mean there’s less for you to have to pull up steep slopes. In some materials, however, lightweight frames and wheels also mean that you sacrifice strength. They also require a certain loss of stability. That’s why mountain bikes are generally heavier built than road bikes. Good suspension can reduce the “whippiness” that sometimes occurs with lighter materials like aluminum and titanium. High end mountain bikes are available with front only or both front and rear suspension. When you choose your bike, be sure to try it out to make sure that you have the right fit, and that the weight feels good to you. If you decide you want to have a bike put together elsewhere, such as an online order, make certain you know exactly what you’re getting, in terms of frame size, weight, and materials.

The best material for your bike frame will depend on how you ride, what kind of shape you’re in, where you ride, and what your budget is. Some frames are lighter, heavier, more or less durable, and more or less expensive than others. Here’s a quick comparison of the major types of bike frame materials to help you decide what to buy for yourself. Of course, nothing can compare to trying out a bike on your own, so be sure to give several different materials a try when you go shopping. You might be surprised.

You’ll hear a lot of things about various materials. Most of them are false, to some degree. Some may be over generalizations. Others are out of date. So, think before you believe it when someone else tells you that getting an aluminum bike frame means a harsh ride, that a steel frame gives you a nice ride quality but the metal softens with age, or that titanium means a soft, whippy frame. There’s a lot of conventional bike frame wisdom that’s either a distortion of the real thing, or pure fiction. You can make a good bike out of any kind of material, and an equally bad bike out of all materials. The construction and methods used make a big difference, as does your riding style.

Three Big Factors

The three big factors to pay attention to when picking a frame material are weight, strength, and stiffness. Many people confuse stiffness with strength. However, titanium is just as strong as steel, even if it’s a lot less stiff by weight. Different materials flex to a different degree under the same amount of force. Stiffness affects how the bike frame feels to ride. Strength affects its durability, but not the quality of the ride. Weight can affect the amount of effort you need to put into riding. Remember that each material has the same weight for a given quantity of it. If you see a bike claiming to be lighter than other bikes of the same material, it’s just using less steel, aluminum, or other frame material.

Steel is the traditional material. It tends to be strong but heavy. Well made steel bikes can mitigate the weight somewhat, by using thinner tubes. Comparatively, aluminum is much lighter, but about third as stiff and half as strong. This is why you’ll usually see thicker walls and larger tubing in aluminum bikes. Titanium is about the same strength as steel, weighs about half as much and is half as stiff. Slightly larger diameters are used to prevent whippiness in titanium bike frames. Titanium tends to be very expensive.

Carbon Fiber

Another, non-metal, material that’s getting a lot of attention lately is carbon fiber. It has a much more pronounced appearance of grain than metal. If these fibers are well aligned, this is actually a helpful feature, because it can provide more strength where your bike receives more stress. Unfortunately, this technology is still somewhat experimental, which means that manufacturers don’t always know how to get the most out of it. Fiber frames are often not as durable as other materials, and can be weak where metal fittings are attached. This material is expensive, but also doesn’t corrode and is quite light.
