Bikes are considered dangerous by a lot of overprotective parents. By not letting their child ride a bike until the age of 14, for fear of injury, they are not letting them enjoy their childhood to its fullest. However, this isn't exactly the best thinking, as children need to go outside and have fun with their friends. Of course, children can't explain to their parents that bikes aren't really that dangerous, because they don't know, and even if they did, no one would listen to them.

Parents tend to be overprotective of their children. While this is understandable in some cases, a lot of times they are just exaggerating. I know some parents who didn’t let their child ride a bike until he was 14. They kept thinking of the worst things that might happen to him, and scared themselves. Of course bikes can be dangerous, if going downhill without any protective gear, for example, but not if you’re ten and you’re just starting out.

Your small ones are not going to accept this without crying their eyes out, so a compromise had to be made, in the form of scooters. Considered safer than bikes, at least by parents, scooters let your children learn balance and responsibility. Scooters also develop their bodies, at an age where most children just want to stay indoors in front of the TV. Although it’s hard getting them to stop watching TV altogether, some measure of “outdoor activity” is required.

The large number of scooter models available raises some questions, but fortunately, for children, choices are not that many. Also, a good scooter brand is recommended, to avoid accidents caused by poor build quality.

The perfect solution would be the Razor Scooter . It is battery powered, but it can also be used as an ordinary scooter. The scooter also has a low maximum speed, that is suitable for children.

Running after your children will also cause you to get into shape. Keep in mind that in no time, the neighborhood will be filled with children zipping around on scooters, and having a blast. The small price of the scooter is certainly worth it, when considering it helps your child develop both his body and mind. Outdoors can be fun!

After bicycling with your children in a trailer, you may be wondering if your baby is now able to move on to her own trailer bike. The answer to that question is – maybe. Most children are able to ride safely on a trailer bike from about age 3 or 4, but it will depend on your child.

A trailer bike (tag-along, trail-a-bike) can make bicycling with children a delight for everyone involved. A one-wheeled machine that hooks on to your bike, a trailer bike is perfect for small kids who are big enough to reach the pedals. If she can ride it, she will love helping you pedal and being part of a team.

There are advantages and disadvantages of the trailer bike to consider:

Advantages:

She is working right alongside you rather than being dead weight. As a team, you will climb hills together and will rejoice when you reach the top.

On the trailer bike, the pedals are independent of yours, which means she can pedal when she wants and rest when she wants.

Disadvantages:

You will have to plan for rain or other inclement weather more carefully. In the trailer, it is easy to protect the child but is much more difficult on the trailer bike.

She may fall asleep. Due to the gentle hum of the road and the swaying of the bike, your child may fall asleep at the wheel. When you feel your bike jerking – stop!

If you have the single gear variety of trailer bike, she won’t be able to pedal going up hills. Just like you, she needs gears – but does she know how to use them?

Bicycling with your children will be a wonderful experience for both of you!

Do you spend your days dreaming of taking off with your children to explore the world? You’ll ride camels around the Egyptian pyramids and gaze in wonder at the graceful domes of the Taj Majal – with your children by your side. You’ll take buses from town to town, fly from country to country, and explore back streets by donkey cart. But travel on bicycles? With children?

I have now cycled about 21,000 miles with my twin sons (now 12) in the past few years, and can tell you that traveling by bike may just be the best way to travel – even with kids!

Most families opt for buses or planes to travel the world, but they miss a lot that way. The motor allows you to easily reach the next city, so you tend to skip the small villages. However, it’s the small villages that have retained the character of the country. In today’s world, cities have become increasingly generic, but villages have not. Travel on bike allows you to spend time in the villages, thereby getting to know the countries you pass through more intimately.

Motorized vehicles encase you in steel and glass and isolate you from Mother Nature. Traveling on bicycle without the protective layer of your vehicle around you, you’ll be more in touch with nature. You’ll feel the wind in your hair and rain on your cheeks. You’ll grind up hills using muscle power only, so will truly understand what those hills are. You’ll feel the effect of altitude on temperature as you climb into the mountains.

But perhaps the most important part of bicycle touring with children are the life lessons they learn from their bikes. They learn lessons that will carry them through life – through all the hardships and struggles they’ll face. They learn to persevere and know they can come out victorious in the end. There are times when only through teamwork can you reach your goal. And sometimes, all you can do is focus on getting through the next 60 seconds and forge ahead.

Can kids learn those lessons by traveling another way? Sure. But the lessons come a whole lot easier on bikes!

Nancy Sathre-Vogel has been bicycling with children for more years than she cares to think about. She is now cycling from Alaska to Argentina with her sons as they attempt to break the world youngest to cycle the Pan American Highway.

With spring quickly approaching, many parents are looking to purchase a running bike for their young child. Running bikes are very popular during the spring and summer months. This specific type of bike is designed to teach a toddler balance and steering skills before they move up to a traditional bicycle. Sometimes referred to as balance bikes, running bikes are wonderful training aids for young children. In addition to perfecting balance skills, these bikes also improve coordination. Running bikes do not have pedals or chains, making them a safe choice for all toddlers.

Running bikes are favored by parents who have children between the ages of two and five. This is a great age to begin teaching kids how to balance on a bicycle. Running bikes are much better than bikes with training wheels. This is because the child can focus just on balancing without having to pedal the bike.

Since there are no pedals, the running bike must be propelled by a parent or an adult that is with the child. The adult simply has to walk or run beside the bike, allowing the child to steer and learn how to balance.

Running bikes can be made from various materials, including wood and metal. They can range in price, but they are generally affordable. Running bikes were designed to provide a transition between a tricycle and a bicycle. Toddlers benefit from running bikes more than a bike with training wheels. This is because they can focus on the skills they need to master without having to pedal the bike at the same time.

Intrea carries a full line of balance bikes for toddlers. They are available in various colors, including black, red, green, blue and pink. These bikes are crafted with the best materials, providing the best quality for the cost.

Running bikes are become more and more popular. These are great teaching tools. They allow the child to learn while having fun. It also offers a great way for parents to interact with their children. Since there are no pedals to propel the bike, a parent must accompany the child and move the bike by pushing or pulling. Running bikes are one of the best ways to prepare any toddler for the real thing.

Designing and manufacturing quality running bikes, Intrea-piko is one of the world’s most respected bicycle producers. This company takes great pride in each design, which has resulted in the production of bikes that are among the best in the world. When shopping for a new bike from Intrea, customers will have three separate categories to choose from. These categories include Pucks, Pidapi and Ferrari.

The line of Pidapi bicycles are designed for young riders. There are two sizes to choose from in this category, 12 inch and 16 inch. These bikes are quality crafted and available in an array of colors. The 12 inch bikes are the smallest bikes manufactured and have a steel frame. They weigh 9.6kg and can support up to 75kg. Each bike includes an adjustable seat and handlebars. These bikes are for riders 3 years and older. The 16 inch bikes in this category are built the same, including the adjustable seat and handlebars and a steel frame. Both sizes can also be purchased with an aluminum frame.

The Pidapi line is specifically designed for young bike riders. Within this category, buyers will find two available sizes, 12 and 16 inch. Most bikes are available in an array of colors. All bikes from the Pidapi line are available with a steel or aluminum frame. Adjustable seat heights and handlebars are standard on every bike from the Pidapi category.

The Pucks line is the third category from Intrea. In this group, buyers will find a range of 12 to 24 inch bikes. These are running bikes for the whole family. Children of all ages will be able to find the perfect bike within this category.

All bikes from Intrea are available with either a steel or aluminum frame. More experienced riders usually opt for an aluminum frame. The bike is lighter, easier to transport and can obtain higher speeds when ridden. Typically, a steel frame bike is a good choice for a young child. The steel will last for years and will withstand the wear and tear that children often impose on a bike.

Additional accessories are also sold, such as training wheels. Some of the Pidapi bicycles come equipped with these extra wheels, which helps to make these a perfect choice for children learning to ride. Older and experienced riders often opt for the aluminum frame, making the bike lighter, which allows for more speed while riding.
