Alabama bike riding can be slow rolling hills, steep mountain downhills or hiking through thick forest. The breath of available riding makes Alabama great for any skill level. Riders of all ages and skill will find something worthwhile in Alabama. Here are a few of my favorites.

Mobile has the South Alabama Trails which are perfect for all skill levels. You can pick up speed on one of the many rolling hils or check out the technical switchbacks, whichever better suits your skills. The trail is over fifteen miles with a smaller seven mile connected. It is very well maintained and popular with the locals so it can get pretty crowded in the summertime months.

Oak Mountain State Park has some of the very best riding in the state of Alabama. Theres something here for everyone. Its located near Birmingham and does require a small admission fee. There are lots of trails ranging from tight and technical to roller coaster downhill sections in the parks 20 miles of track. Advanced riders will want to look for Blood Rock. This is the most technical part of the track.

Wetumpka, Alabama has the Swayback Bridge Trail. It is a small twelve mile loop that can get pretty tough to climb but is a fantastically fun ride. The rocks and exposed roots will keep you on your game but the speed you can get will make you feel like a kid again. You may want to enjoy the early morning at Lake Jordan and show up in mid morning after the other bikers have battled the spider webs that sprung up overnight.

Near Cullman is the Hurricane Creek Park which is only eight miles of trails but they are all technical and steep. Bring your full suspension bike for these bumpy advanced trails. The deep canyon provides a lot of freestyle opportunities and will be worn out after a day in Hurricane Creek. If you need a break during the day the landscape scenery is enough to rejuvenate anyone, just bring lots of water.

Montesano State Park is over thirty miles of incredible, twisty, bumpy, rolling biking heaven. There are family trails for easy riding and also some advanced trails you will want to leave the kids behind on. Some aren’t meant for bicycles so be careful not to enter these loops. The fun downhills and family focus make this state park an attraction for the whole family.

Near Huntsville, Alabama there is the Colonial Hills ORV. This area is loved by bike riders and dirt bikers alike. You will need to look out for the long limbs reaching across the fifteen miles of trails. The rocky technical climbs are tough but worth it for the radical descents.

These are a few of my favorite trails in Alabama. Thanks to the mild winters of the American south, you can pretty much ride these trails all year long. The summer will be a little more crowded, humid and buggy so I recommend the fall for conquering Alabamas trails. Remember the water and to have a good time.

The standard and efficiency of your BMX bike can be seen on the wheels you are using. BMX wheels are usually made to be only effective on one or more platform. So, choosing a right wheel requires that you give importance on where you should use it.

Bike wheels usually contain 6 parts: tire, inner tube, rim, spoke, hub and axle. The tires that are fasten on the rim of the wheel and hold the inner tube inside of it. For the rim, you can use the chrome type because it provides better braking surface for your brake pads. Rims are usually held in place by a spoke. The wires found on the wheel are called the spokes, while the hub is the part of a wheel that is found at the center. It can come with sealed or unsealed bearing. The center of the hub is known as axle.

BMX bike wheels come in many types. Bikes usually come in different sized axles on front and back wheel. The common size of axles is 3/8 inch or 14mm. Also, bikes have different spoke counts. But remember that the strength of the wheel does not depend on the number of the spokes. Some box-store bikes with lots of spokes are even useless.

Tires have different specifications. Some tires like knobbier tires work on dirt ground while other tires with smoother patterns work on asphalt or wood. But some tires can also work on both dirt and pavement. At the time of your purchase, some shops usually agreed on swapping your tires for free. After your purchase, your wheels can be upgraded and this will usually cost more than $40 per wheel.

Putting wheels on your BMX bike seems easy. But it can be tricky to keep your wheels properly maintained. If there is a clicking noise on your bike, then you have loose spokes. To adjust the tightness of the spoke, turn the spoke to the left using a wrench. But if the wheels of your BMX bike don’t spin very well, then the bearings of the wheels are too tight. Tightening your bearings might take a while and even can be frustrating. Hence, you might want to use the sealed bearings. Sealed bearings are stronger, more reliable and easier to work on. Everything the area has to offer is best seen from the saddle and there are trails for the beginner, intermediate and more advanced rider. Groups and families love to explore in this scenic wonder. As with any adventure sport, it’s important to prepare properly. Ensure that the bike is in good working order and take a repair kit just in case. Colorado is known for its hot days and chilly nights, so sunscreen, lots of water and plenty layers of clothing are required.

The San Juan National Forest with its high peaks, lakes, old mines, canyons and waterfalls is a popular destination in Colorado for mountain biking. Visitors to this area are delighted to spot elk, bear, mule deer, grouse and mountain lions. The Pike and San Isabel National Forest contains 14,000 feet mountains, reservoirs, white water and historic ghost towns. It is a favorite haunt for bikers, fishing enthusiasts, and owners of 4-Wheel Drive vehicles.

The Sangre de Cristo mountain range can be found in the Rio Grande National Forest. It is a beautiful area of alpine streams and high altitude lakes. The area is promoted as a Colorado mountain biking destination and as a great place for 4-Wheel Drive, road biking and motorcycling. The Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forest boasts eight designated wilderness areas, five large lakes, and the Front Range mountains.

Routt National Forest is another playground for mountain biking in Colorado, as well as jeeping. The protected area has a number of threatened and endangered species amongst the Spruce, Pine and Fir trees. Chatfield State Park is very close to Denver and contains a 27-acre nature preserve and a 1,550 acre reservoir. It is a weekend retreat for Denver residents and hot air balloons are launched from here. There is also the opportunity to photograph Great Blue Herons from March until September.

There are trails, particularly suitable for the beginner Colorado mountain biker. Three of these trails are to be found around the Boulder area. They are at the Betasso Preserve, the Meyers Homestead Trail and the Marshall Mesa.

If mountains seem a bit daunting, there are Downhill Mountain Bike Tours. These provide all the fun without the aching limbs next day! They are popular with groups and families with young children. The tour provides a guide with first aid training, along with the bikes, helmets and water bottles.
