For 2011 Kona extend their exposure in the big wheel market with the 2011 Big Kahuna. Featuring unique features this new breed of bike is represented well by this bike although less powerful riders may struggle with the larger wheels.

Kona decided to roll out with backswept bars regarding their new 29er which in addition to the steep seat angle use a strange riding position which are often slightly uncomfortable every so often, although the natural off-road riding feel an excellent is normally value the slight discomfort.

When riding in the rough stuff, the forks combined with the stiff frame takes it’s toll on your wrist & feet making long rides somewhat impossible, though the advantage of this is a nimble frame which is highly responsive, but hardly the best of both worlds.

Despite the presence of the particularly smooth easton wheelset the quality of ride usually is poor, something you can’t really cope with with any 1500 bike. The main upset of this Kona could possibly be the weight, featuring steel all around the frame to include strength the bike feels heavy when riding then when as well as the 29″ wheels it may be a real struggle to have the bike up anything in addition to the short grunt climbs.

One main good thing about the Kona Big Kahuna 29 is the fact each one of these problems, bar the load may be upgraded as required, although expensive compared to buying a more complex 29er for example the Giant XTC. Along with a big frame & wheel combination combined with perfect geometry the Kona Big Kahuna can be an obvious option for powerful riders and although it isn’t perfect, one of our advised bicycles for 2011.

Kona are one of the top cycling brands across the UK. Please click throughon the phrase Kona to go through to an amazing selection of bikes and equipment at awesomely good prices.

The climb up the steep rocky hill sent a waterfall of sweat down my face. The best shooting location was not always on flat ground. After a short vacation from shooting sporting event, I was back in the saddle shooting a mountain bike event in Fontana – the California Golden State Championship #3 in Fontana, CA on May 15th.

Riding fast down the multi-lap course, the cross county mountain bikers I’d seen before at other races, or at least, most of them. At the top of the hill, a race volunteer advised that most of the mtb riders were walking the steep, uphill portion of the course. Today, I chose to photograph the mountain bikers looking strong on the downhill section of the course.

Feeling the heat, the Fontana sun was a reminder that summer was near. The next SRC event in August would add a new level of dehydration for these mountain bike riders. In a four event series, this was the third for SRC and major sponsor Kenda.

A mixture of single track trails and fire roads made up the California Golden State Championship. With one major climb and descent on this multi-lap course, the XC mountain bike riders who had enough energy to smile for the camera during the first few laps had no energy for a pose near the end. A tight 90 degree turn slowed many of the mountain bikers to an almost stand still near the top of the course.

In today’s race, David Santos captured the XC mountain bike race in 1:29:07 with Griffith Vertican and Garnet Vertican earning the 2nd and 3rd place spots in 1:34:07 and 1:41:05, respectively. In the women’s division, Heather Rose captured 1st place and a fourth overall finish in 1:53:12.

For the men, the downhiller with the fastest time for the day was David Klaassen VanOorschot with 2nd and 3rd place going to Rich Houseman and Ryan Egusquiza, respectively. For the women’s division, Gabriela Williams took 1st place followed by Kelly Damschen in 2nd place.

Ryan Equsquiza took on the Super D race as well and won, followed by Eric Bierman in 2nd. Heather Rose, the XC winner, took the Super D winner’s division.

If there’s one thing we like it is gadgets. Gadgets make our lives easier to manage. When you bike ride, gadgets are both necessary and fun. Here are some must-have gadgets for the bike rider.

But first, you need to examine how you ride your bicycle. Do you enjoy an easy trip through the neighborhood once in a while, or maybe down to a local store on an errand? Or do you go on trails with your mountain bike for hours? The answer will determine what kind of extras you should get.

1. Bike Rack for your Car

A rack is a must for anyone who wants to ride in a location a good distance from home. You have to be able to transport your bicycle there without riding it. And it’s best to get a rack that can fit more than one bike. You never know when you’ll want to go riding with family or friends, or even if going solo, bring along a spare bike just in case. Just make sure you get a bike rack that holds your bicycle securely with the least amount of movement of the wheels or handlebars. And if your rack goes on the top of your car rather than the back, be mindful of the extra height when driving through tunnels or underpasses.

2. Bike computer

Some may think this is excessive, but it really is a handy tool to have if you want to track how far you have ridden. A bike computer can keep track of speed, mileage, elapsed time of the trip, and clock time, among other things. Some computers are more sophisticated than others and track more things.

3. Water Bottle

This comes as a standard on many bicycles today, but if you don’t have one, you need to add it. The first time you take a long drink after a hard ride, you’ll be happy you added it.

4. Bicycle Pedal Clips

Clips are very useful for keeping your feel from slipping off the pedals. It may seem that this makes it more difficult to stop, especially to a new bike rider, because you have to take your feet out of the clips before putting them down. But in reality, pedal clips make it easier on your feet.

5. Bicycle Panniers

These are bicycle bags that attach to the bike. They are much better than carrying stuff in a backpack because they leave the rider free to concentrate on the ride instead of worrying about the bag shifting and making the rider unbalanced. You can put all kinds of handy things in them such as your phone, a first aid kit, a tool kit for unforeseen repairs, food, and a jacket (you never know when a storm will come up suddenly). Having all this gear on the bike itself allows the rider to just enjoy the ride.

Dan knows the importance of biking gadgets, especially the cycling water bottle. That’s why he created a website devoted to it, called http://www.cyclingwaterbottle.org.

The biking trails in Breckenridge offer visitors a closer look at the dazzling view, whether they are taking the easy, difficult, long or short trails.

The biking trails in Breckenridge offer visitors a closer look at the dazzling view, whether they are taking the easy, difficult, long or short trails. And since there are lots of Breckenridge rentals options for bikes, mountain biking has become very popular in Breckenridge.

Gains of Biking Breck: The biking season begins in spring, when the bikers can have their fill of colors wherever they look, as flowers start to bloom and the aspen leaves start budding. When summer comes, mild temperatures and the spectacular view of the mountain continue to create the ideal environment for a full day of biking. Lastly, fall brings its unique charm as the colorful aspen trees turn shimmering yellow to confirm that it is truly fall in Colorado.

Group Friendly Biking: The array of terrain and trails is another major reason to go biking in Breckenridge. Whether you are an extreme biker, a novice or part of a group, you will find your kind of trail. For instance, Boreas Pass is considered a simple to moderate route that is family friendly and can be finished in a day trip. Along the way, riders enjoy not only the scenic views but also educational detours to the historical relics of Breckenridge such as the old water tanks and rail beds. The simplest way to get to Boreas Pass is to begin at Breckenridge Ice Rink, then climb Boreas Pass Road, which is a broad route that leads riders within the aspen groves, an exhilarating experience especially from early to middle part of fall.

Win from your pain: For bikers who are raring for elevation gain, there is a trail for them at Breckenridge. Why not try to go to Hoosier Pass? In fact, to reach the peak of Hoosier Pass means riding for eleven miles, a real thrill for riders with the staying power for the challenge. Sharing switchbacks with motorists adds to the challenge and bikers withstand the roller coaster-like ride with the thought that biking to 11,000 feet from sea level is an exceptional feat that many bikers will be in awe of. Certainly, the double challenges of riding with motorists and the steep elevation rise to Hoosier Pass are not for bikers who lack the experience, determination, and stamina for the task.

Mountain Biking: Perhaps the bike is the best vehicle to go around Breckenridge Ski Resort because it can travel even in the narrowest trail. Proceed to Peak 9, then to the Beaver Run Resort and eventually to the immaculate Burro Trail that is just one of the beautiful spots in Breckenridge. The Burro Trail leads to Spruce Creek Road, which is a good starting point to go to McCullough Gulch, or to go down the mountain. Many other beautiful destinations can be reached by bike from Burro Trail.

It is Okay to Borrow: Planning a trip to Breckenridge should be stress-free. There is no need to bring a mountain bike and the corresponding accessories necessary to head to the trails because they are available at Breckenridge rental shops. And visitors are assured to find the right lodging arrangements from the endless choices of Breckenridge rentals, and can spend more time discovering more beautiful parts of the mountain town.

Mountain biking is the best way to reach more destinations in Breckenridge.

One needs a mountain bike before you plan to go for a mountain biking. Different components of a mountain bike are as below:

The bottom bracket attaches the body of the bike to the crank set.

Brake cable is the one which would connect the lever of the brake to the brake mechanism.

Brake lever is the lever that is on the handles and activates the brakes. You have the front bake on the left side and the rear brake on the right side.

Chain is a circular set of links which transfers the power from the ring of the chain to the cogs.

Chain rings are the toothed rings which would link to the crank for holding the chain.

Crank is a lever which extends from the pedal to the bottom bracket, which transfers the power to the chain ring.

The mechanism used for shifting the chain from cog to another is Derailleur.

Down tube is the section of a frame which extends down from the bottom bracket to the stem.

Front shock is for absorbing the shock on the front fork.

Handlebar is a horizontal bar which is linked with the stem and has handgrips on both ends.

Headset is the mechanism that is on the front of the frame which links the front fork to the handlebars and the stem.

Hub is the center part of a wheel to which the spokes are attached.

The lower pulley of the rear derailleur which gives the spring tension for keeping the chain tight is Idler pulley.

Nipple is a threaded receptacle which holds the spoke’s end to the rim.

Pedal is the place to rest your foot to pedal on and this links to the crank.

The rear shock is the shock absorber on the dual suspension kind of bikes for the rear tire.

Rim is a metal ring which holds the spokes from the inside and from outside the tire.

The seat is termed as saddle.

The seat post gives support for the seat.

The metal rod which passes through the hub linking the dropouts of the frame to the wheel is the Skewer.

Spindle is a freely rotating axle which is attached the crank arms and also a part of the lower bracket.

The strong wires that link the rim to the hub is the spokes.

A part which links the steering tube to the handle bar is the stem.

The wheel hub is the center of the wheel to which the spokes are connected, this is essentially one of the important bicycle parts to bear in mind.

Regardless of size, age and ability, mountain biking can be enjoyed by everyone, young and old. It’s a great way to keep and stay fit, and certainly an excellent way to enjoy the countryside and nature. All that you need is a suitable mountain bike.

If you’re going to do mountain biking, you should know what sort, so you can choose the appropriate bike. There are 4 main categories and they include cross country, downhill/freeride, all-mountain, and trials.

Each style of mountain biking has a corresponding type of mountain bike. Each type of mountain bike is designed for different kinds of terrain and obstacles and has its own pros and cons. So you should be clear about your riding preferences.

Downhill/Freeride bikes are designed to take huge drops and hits while speeding down hills on rough terrain. They are very durable and heavy, they have full suspension and a limited selection of gears, sometimes only 7-9. They don’t perform very well uphill, but have no competition down.

If you’re looking for a bike to be fun in the largest number of situations, consider all-mountain bike. They come with front and rear suspension, full gear set and will take you almost anywhere.

Cross-Country bikes are the most popular and well-known mountain bikes. They have full selection of gears (usually 27), they are the lightest of mountain bikes and usually have only front suspension. Designed for all types of terrain they perform very good in both climing and descending.

Trial mountain bikes are no standard mountain bikes. They’re not designed for comfortable touring, but rather for jumping over obstacles. Some don’t even have a seat. Not for average riders.

OK, so you know what type of mountain bike you want, but which brand to choose, there are so many? I myself prefer Iron Horse, but brand name is really not very important here. You should look at the quality of the components. How sturdy is the frame, how good is suspension and brakes and so on. That is what is important.

That’s it. Now put on your helmet and enjoy the ride.

Mountain biking equipment includes accessories, components, frames, apparels and the bikes themselves. The product is varied so you must be clear what you are trying to get. Does mountain biking mean a leisurely pastime for you or are you the more adventurous type? If this is your first step towards mountain biking, then you should begin by choosing a perfectly suspended, sturdy bike to enjoy your bike ride.

Mountain bike parts are looser than cycling parts. It can be said that comparing the two can be like comparing oranges and apples. You dress up in t-shirts and shorts and chuck warmers or leg tights. But care must be taken to wear helmets. Hazards like rocks and trees can ambush the riders so protection is a must.

A few accessories make your adventure safer. If you want to hit the trails at night then equip yourself with mountain bike lights. Specifically, led bicycle lights; the energy of the lights battery and deliver the rider added hours of brightest light. This is manna for mountain bike fanatics who must get out even before dawn.

Your neighborhood dealer or online bicycle shops is where you will find splendid mountain bike gear. They sell elbow, leg, arm, shin, knee guards and also full body armor. A plethora of items like helmet, gloves and proper clothing are also found at amazing rates. These shops cater to the thrill seekers on the mountains as well as the recreational bikers.

Protective mountain bike equipment is ideal for the hazards of downhill and uphill racing. Plenty of body armor parts are created and produced for the rough sport so in case of a accident you will have adequate safety. These gears will not come in the way of your ride and will block serious accidents as well.

You cannot emphasize more the relevance of helmets. They can be life saviors for this speedy and adventurous sport. Both big and small races need them. Gloves, although optional, will prevent blisters and burns on your hands, and give a firmer grip for sweaty palms.

Comfortable apparel in the form of shorts, t-shirts and sneakers are usually the standard because most of these races take place in the summer season. If the season is winter, spring or fall then pants, vests and sweat shirts can come in. and rest assured, with the variety of clothing gear in the offing there will be no problem in making a style statement.

Many of the mountain biking fanatics are consistently searching for different ways of improving their ride. Be it making the bike faster, better control, more comfort, and serious riders are in constant and serious rides always lookout for the new and best components for a mountain bike available in the market. Searching for the best parts is not so difficult by making use of the famous online shops for bicycle.

A saddle is one of the components of the bike that would make the ride more comfortable. You can find different kind of designs for the seat and each one for a specific reason. Few seats are done for the comfort for women while the other ones would aid you in relieving the prostate pressure. Adjusting the stem of the handle bar is another way of improving the bike’s fit. By rising it a couple of inches, the rider can sit still more upright and this is preferred by some people.

All dedicated riders are aware that different tracks demand for various kinds of tire treads. By using the correct pattern of tread, you can have a better control of the bike when you fly through the trails. When you want to stop your bike on a dime then, the perfect ticket would be the best quality V-type brakes.

Good suspensions and shocks would always be in the top of a mountain biker’s list for vital components for a bike. The better your bicycle absorbs the downs and ups of the track, the more you would enjoy the fun and pleasure of riding. Heavy bike parts replaced with the lighter ones that are made from aluminum and titanium would make it easy for you to control to bike along with the increase in speed. You can find all these parts at good prices in a nice bike shop.

People who like mountain biking, however find that their bike is not working the way it did when bought new, or would want to improve the performance of the bike, comfort or fit, a few selected mountain bikes components might go long till improving your ride. No wonder you would be surprised to see how few selected components would change your bike’s fit and transform. Irrespective of if you would like to trim a little weight from the bike or have your old handle bar grips being replaced, a good quality bicycle shop should always help you in finding all the required parts for your bicycle.

Most of the mountain bike components are designed to improve the speed and also have more control on the ride. Shaving off a little weight from the bike would increase its speed. Having the heavy parts replaced with the high-tech and lighter ones with Aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber bicycle parts would make the bicycle very light.
